Show all work for credit. Do all your work neatly on the paper provided. Write your name on each sheet you turn in. I will not grade any work done on the test sheet. When you are finished turn in all sheets including the test. Good Luck.

  1. Solve for x. 5+ax = 12-bx

  2. The sum of three consecutive natural numbers is 804. Find the numbers.

  3. Solve the following equations:

    1. 6x-7Öx-3 = 0

    2. [(5x+4)/( 5x-4)] = 3/2

    3. 2x2-x-1 = 0

    4. 11x2-33x = 0

    5. x3+2x2-4x-8 = 0

    6. 2x-3 = 3(4-3x)

    7. x4+x2-2 = 0

    8. x4 = x2

  4. Write a quadratic equation whose solutions are x = -1 and x = 3.

  5. (4 points) Determine whether the following values of x are solutions of the inequality

    x+1 < [2x/ 3].

        (a) x = -3   (b) x = 0   (c) x = -4   (d) x = 4

  6. Solve the following inequalities (write all answers using interval notation):

    1. 0 £ [(x+3)/ 2] < 5

    2. |x+10| ³ 9

    3. |5-2x| < -3

    4. (x+5)(x-1)(x-7) £ 0
